Privacy Policy for ParaCast

Tomaž Šober operates the ParaCast mobile application (the "App"). This page informs you of our policies regarding the collection, use, and disclosure of personal data when you use our App and the choices you have associated with that data.

We built the ParaCast App as a Free application to serve the paragliding community in Slovenia. It is intended to provide flight safety assistance by displaying live weather station observations and live webcam feeds.

Disclaimer: This service is provided at no cost and is intended for use "as is". We do not take any responsibility for the accuracy or availability of data received from third-party weather stations or webcams.

1. Information Collection and Use

We value your privacy. The App is designed to collect the minimum amount of data necessary to function. We do not collect, store, or share any personally identifiable information (such as your name, email address, phone number, or physical location).

Data transmitted automatically for App functionality:

• Device Identifiers (X-Device-ID): When the App requests weather data, it sends a randomized or hardware-derived device identifier to our secure server over HTTPS. This identifier is used solely to monitor API usage, prevent traffic abuse, and perform rate-limiting. It is never linked to your personal identity, email, or profile.
• Network Connection Status: The App checks your device's connection status locally to determine if it is online before initiating a network request to download weather data.

2. Device Permissions

To function correctly, the App requires the following standard Android permissions:

• Internet Access (android.permission.INTERNET): Required to establish a secure connection to our server (https://stgate.mywire.org) to fetch live weather observations, takeoff parameters, webcam snapshots, and app updates.
• Network State Access (android.permission.ACCESS_NETWORK_STATE): Required to check whether your device has an active internet connection before attempting to fetch weather data.

3. Third-Party Services and SDKs

The App incorporates third-party services that may collect information used to identify your device or general location:

• Google Play Services / Google Maps SDK: Used to display weather stations and takeoff locations interactively on a map. Google's use of information is governed by the Google Privacy Policy.

4. Data Retention, Security, and Deletion

We implement security measures to protect the logs transmitted to our API server.

• API Logs: Individual request logs containing your device identifier are used strictly for diagnostic and security purposes and are automatically pruned from the server database after 31 days.
• Usage Summaries: We retain aggregate, non-personal usage statistics (such as request counts and app version numbers per device identifier) to monitor server load.
• Deletion Requests: Since the App does not use accounts or collect personal data, there are no user profiles or personal files to delete. However, if you wish to request the manual deletion of server-side diagnostic logs associated with your device identifier, you may contact the developer via the email address listed below.

5. Children's Privacy

Our App is not intended for use by anyone under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personally identifiable information from children. If you are a parent or guardian and realize your child has contacted us, please get in touch so we can remove any related contact records.

6. Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update our Privacy Policy from time to time. You are advised to review this page periodically for any changes. Changes to this Privacy Policy are effective immediately when posted on this page.
